Happy New Years

Credit: Creative Commons

New Years is always very exciting.  We get a chance to reflect on the highs and lows of the past year, as well as look forward to what we want in the next year.  2012 is a year of possibilities and I am personally very excited.

There is positive news from economists that the sluggish housing market is going to pick up the pace and more and more people are going to be buying homes.  This is one thing that I find very exciting for the New Year.  We are continuing to evolve our product with creative new ideas and energy efficiency measures.   I look forward to refining things even more as 2012 comes. I am also looking forward to building relationships with the people of our communities and working with our dedicated staff, suppliers, and contractors.

On behalf of the entire Mid-Atlantic Builders’ family, we hope that the next year is full of good things and we wish you a happy and healthy 2012.

Looking Forward to 2012

As the New Year approaches, it is time to start thinking about what lies in store for us in the coming year.  Now is the time to start thinking about any big decisions that you could be making so that you can plan ahead.

If buying a new home is something that you envision for 2012 then now is the time to start getting organized!   Home prices and interest rates are forecasted to steadily rise as the year goes on, so early into the year is probably the best time to lock in great prices and low interest rates.

Come in and visit us at any of our communities in January after you are rested from the holiday season.  Our sales counselors will be on hand to help you see that a Mid-Atlantic home is an excellent choice for you to make this year.

Happy Holidays from Mid-Atlantic Builders

Credit: Creative Commons

This time of year is always festive.  Store fronts are decorated and lights shine throughout the neighborhoods.  But, the most important sign of the holidays is what traditions are carried out inside the home.

Whether it be decorating your house from top to bottom, or a gathering of family, we each have our own special way of marking the holiday season.  I am happy that Mid-Atlantic Builders is able to provide homes for the holiday festivities. But it is the people who live in the houses we build that really make my holiday season.  They take the house that we build and truly make it a home. It makes my holiday season brighter knowing they make our homes a part of their holiday.

On behalf of myself and the whole Mid-Atlantic Builders family I would like to wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season.  May you all enjoy your celebrations.

Happy Thanksgiving From the Mid-Atlantic Family to Yours

Credit: Creative Commons

This time of year gives us all a chance to focus on what is really important, our friends, family, and loved ones who have helped get us through the past year.  This year, I am thankful for all the wonderful people that surround me every day and help Mid-Atlantic Builders provide beautiful homes to our customers. Whether it be the employees, contractors, or suppliers, each one plays a special role that helps our company build communities in which our customers can share their special moments with their family and friends.

With the help of all these people, our customers have a warm, inviting home that they go home to every day and in which they are able to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.  On behalf of myself and the entire Mid-Atlantic Builders’ team, I would like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving.

Mid-Atlantic Builders Walks for the Homeless

For the past 24 years Fannie Mae has hosted the Homeless Walkathon on the National Mall. This year, a coalition from the Mid-Atlantic Builders and The MNCBIA Home Builders Care Foundation participated along with over 10,000 other walkers to raise money and awareness for the homeless on Saturday, November 19th on the National Mall in DC.  This walk is held to raise money for the homeless in our nation’s capital.   Currently there are over 12,000 homeless people living in DC, 40% of these people are families and one in four is a child.  All the money raised from the walk goes to organizations in DC area that provide services and shelters for the homeless. On this walk alone around 1 million dollars was raised. This year was bittersweet because it is the last year that this walk is going to be held.  In coming years, it is going to be broken down into smaller neighborhood walks providing what is hoped to be more funding.  If you want to join the cause and make the donation you still can!  Click here to help the DC area’s homeless population!

The Home Builders Care Foundation also helps the homeless and other at risk families and individuals.  It helps construct shelter related construction projects by having builders work with existing community service organizations and care providers.  The foundation also works to coordinate the various charitable efforts of individuals and companies in the building industry. We are happy that we were able to participate on the walk’s last event.

Increasing Interior Accessibility

In addition to the inclusion of an elevator and raising the garage slab to eliminate steps into her home, there were many minor touches that went into making Deborah Massey’s house totally accessible.  Some of these changes you would not even think of, such as the height of light switches and outlets.  These were all adjusted so they could be reached while sitting in a wheelchair.

The widths of the door frames and corridors were also increased throughout the house.  They have been widened to at least 48 inches as opposed to the standard 36 inches found in most of our homes, so Ms. Massey can now fit comfortably through all the doors in her house while in her wheelchair.  To give her more floor space, the depth of the pantry and laundry room was also increased, and the upstairs landing was widened beyond our normal Somerset model floor plans.

These are only some of the less noticeable interior modifications we made to Ms. Massey’s home.  Several more obvious ones we will discuss in future posts.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 301-674-2837 or email me.

Celebrating Our Country’s Veterans

On behalf of myself and the entire Mid-Atlantic family, I would like to wish the active and retired service men and women of America a happy Veterans Day.  It is because of them that our country is able to enjoy freedom and safety, and we thank them for their service.

In order to further honor these brave men and women, Mid-Atlantic Builders is celebrating Veterans Day by offering a Military Appreciation Package to help them achieve the same sense of safety and comfort we enjoy every day because of their efforts.  We are offering the following incentives:  100% financing, no money down, $1,500 towards custom modifications, and a reduced builder deposit.  We are honored that many Veterans come home to one of our houses at the end of the day and we look forward to seeing many more of these courageous Americans coming home soon.

Thank you once again to all of our Veterans, and the sacrifices they have made for our country.

Prince George’s County Students to build a Mid-Atlantic Home

We are proud to announce that the Foundation of Automotive and Construction Technology for Students has chosen to build a Mid-Atlantic home for their Prince George’s County student built home.  This year they plan to build our Aspen model.

This program, which is affiliated with the Prince George’s County school system, has high school students from the area involved with the building process from start to finish.  It gives them the opportunity to learn trade skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, architectural drafting and landscape design.  We are honored that our house architecture was chosen for their 2012 home.

Special Features for Our Veteran

Up until now, the steps we’ve discussed about the building progress of Deborah Massey’s house would apply to any Mid-Atlantic Builders home.  However, since our Veteran has different needs than the average homeowner, there were special design changes made to her house.  Ms. Massey’s two favorites are her elevator and the special floor built into her garage.

This is the first Somerset that has had an elevator installed.  The house was specially designed so that an elevator shaft could fit and go to all three floors.  Ms. Massey loves this feature of the house because it allows her to enjoy all three floors of her house without any difficulty.

The garage slab was also specially designed.  In all of our other homes, there are normally two to three steps leading up to the house from the garage.  This is not the case in Ms. Massey’s house, where the slab has been raised so that the entrance to the house and the garage are level.  Ms. Massey’s garage has also been expanded slightly so that a wheelchair can comfortably access and move around the car and into the house.

These are only two of the many design changes that Mid-Atlantic Builders made to make Ms. Massey’s home perfect for her.  We will be discussing other changes in posts to come.

If you have any questions about our homes or anything else, please feel free to call me at 301-674-2837 or email me.
