Reviewing the Benefits of our Energy$mart Program

In a number of earlier posts I outlined Mid-Atlantic Builders’ Energy$mart program in an effort to demonstrate our commitment to building quality homes that exceed industry expectations and standards. I’d like to review some of the benefits you would enjoy by owning a Mid-Atlantic home under our new Energy$mart program.

With Energy$mart, your new Mid-Atlantic Builders home will run more efficiently costing you less on your monthly energy bills. With the newest construction
technology and techniques, your home will also be more durable and safer for your family.

Recently we discussed Mid-Atlantic Builders’ Energy Star partnership. To qualify as an Energy Star partner a home must have at least 15 percent greater efficiency than homes built under the current energy code. Every Mid-Atlantic Energy$mart Certified home surpasses the Energy Star standard and achieves up to 40 percent greater efficiency. In fact, every Mid-Atlantic Builders home is Energy Star qualified by a third-party professional—as opposed to the minimum compliance rate of 14.3 percent by other participating homebuilders.

Mid-Atlantic Builders also includes the new EPA Indoor airPLUS air quality package in all of its homes providing a healthier indoor environment—going above and beyond Energy Star’s minimum requirements. These additional features are employed to ensure that each new home’s air is cleaner and healthier, and that the home will always be as comfortable as possible.

Additionally, Mid-Atlantic Builders received the NAHB Research Center Green Building Certification, which means that our program is 100 percent compliant with the highest standards and objectively certified by third-party inspectors. In order to receive this certification, each home must be tested twice for energy, water, and resource efficiency, for improved air quality and for reduced environmental impact.

Clearly Mid-Atlantic Builders is committed to building the highest quality home for you and your family. These features may cost a little more up front, but isn’t your family worth it?

Designing Your Spa Bathroom

At Mid-Atlantic Builders, we take our award winning spa bathroom design very seriously. We believe the owner’s suite bathroom should include the features of luxury you might expect from your finest vacation resort. Everyone, though, has a different idea of what luxury should look like. As Mid-Atlantic Builders’ Interior Design Consultant it is my job to guide your inner designer.

At the moment, bathroom design is heavily focused on a fusion of simple calm elegances (warm colors and traditional stylings) while incorporating European-inspired elements such as wall-mounted faucets and sleek lines. The fusion is being called “Soft Contemporary” because it is a blend of warm colors and modern styles such as stainless steel.

Designing the bathroom that fits your personality and budget requires some balance. Here are some tips:

-These days people are steering clear of gold finishes and opting for stainless steel or brushed nickel. Oil-rubbed faucets are also gaining popularity.

-More people are opting for under mount sinks. They are more practical and more people are moving away from vessel bowls because of their difficulty to maintain.

-While granite countertops are still tremendously popular, manufactured stones and concrete (yes, like from your driveway) are gaining in popularity with the eco-sensitive and price-conscious crowd.

-For flooring, porcelain is still the popular choice though natural stones such as marble and travertine are simple ways to add “pop” for a small expense.

-While other builders may steer clear of expensive glass blocks in their showers, we love it. It not only adds natural light, but it gives showering a new level of seduction.

-As for appliances, just like in the kitchen, high efficiency faucets and toilets are the way to go.

If you have some ideas or questions on designing your new spa bathroom please stop by one of our models (Savannah, Beechtree, or Woodmore North) or contact me via email or call me directly at 301-352-5363 to schedule an appointment.

Mid-Atlantic Builders is a true Energy Star

Beginning this year, all Mid-Atlantic Builders’ homes started receiving an Energy Star certification. But with the launch of our new Energy$mart program every home we build goes well beyond this certification, achieving an efficiency level rarely matched by our competition.

To qualify as an Energy Star partner, homes must be at least 15 percent more efficient than the current energy code. Mid-Atlantic Builders exceeds these standards, achieving an average efficiency of up to 30 percent.

Twice during the construction of each home, our Home Energy Rating System (HERS) certified heating contractor inspects and evaluates the efficiency of each home—once before drywall is installed to ensure proper placement of insulation and again just before  the homeowner closing to perform an air leak test.

Advancements in home heating and insulation technology have made our products more energy efficient, saving you on your monthly energy bill and keeping you warmer. We are proud to be able to provide a more environmentally friendly home. Our R-38 cellulose attic insulation contains more than 75% recycled materials and helps reduce heat loss, and an included R-42 sealed attic access panel provides superior insulation with minimal air leakage.

So join our green movement. Stop in to any one of Mid-Atlantic Builders’ five communities in Southern Maryland to find out more about our Energy$mart program. Visit us at Beechtree in Upper MarlboroWoodmore North in Mitchellville or our new Villages of Savannah in Brandywine.

Mid-Atlantic Builders’ Fireplaces Keep You Warm This Winter

There are very few respites from the cold of winter. Other than a steaming mug of hot chocolate, I can’t think of a better way to melt away the chills of winter than by snuggling up next to a roaring fireplace. At Mid-Atlantic Builders a ready-to-light gas fireplace comes standard in all of our homes. Most other builders can’t say the same.

Many other local builders are cutting building costs by turning once-standard features into a la carte add-ons. At Mid-Atlantic, though, a home just isn’t a home without a fireplace.

Even as a standard feature, our fireplaces are larger (42”) than the optional (33”) fireplaces offered by our competition. And because each unit is entirely gas operated they are safer to use, easily started (just a flick of a switch) and can be a cheaper way to stay warm this season.

Additionally, Mid-Atlantic Builders allows customer’s to add several fireplaces throughout their home. Enjoy a romantic evening in your Owner’s Suite while the blazing embers set the mood, or relax with a book in the lower level Recreation Room while warming your toes in front of glowing logs. With the largest selection of mantels and surrounds of any builder in town, there are plenty of choices as to how you want your fireplace to look.

With fewer hours of daylight and cold and icy weather ahead, finding joy in the small comforts of your home shouldn’t be about costing more, it should be about enjoying more.

Learn how you can stay warm this winter. Stop in to any one of Mid-Atlantic Builders’ five communities in Southern Maryland. Come in to one of our models to discuss our current promotions, from a free Finished Rec Room to a contribution of $10,000 toward closing costs. Home Prices Rising in Most U.S. Cities

A recent USA Today article shows how home prices rose this spring in approximately two-thirds of U.S. cities. In fact, 14 cities “had double-digit price increases.”

According to the article, “The national median price in the second quarter was $176,900, up from $174,200 in the same quarter last year and up from $166,400 in the January-to-March period.”

But fluctuations can be somewhat cyclical: The median price “falls in the winter and rises in the summer months. That’s because families with children traditional move during the summer and buy larger homes.”

June 2010 Home Sales Jumped 24% Higher

The Wall Street Journal reported on July 26th that June home sales in the United States leaped approximately 24%, and sales increased by about 30,000 homes over the previous month. This is after the expiration of the Federal Tax Credit, which makes it a more significant indication of improved market conditions. As we’ve reported in the past, prices have been trending steadily higher as sales have increased and inventories have begun to shrink dramatically. Waiting to buy now will only cost more as interest rates begin their rebound and prices begin to move upward again.

So if you’re searching for New Luxury Homes in Maryland, for New Luxury Homes in Prince George’s County, for New Homes in Upper Marlboro, or Maryland New Homes, Mid-Atlantic Builders crafts the finest PG County New Homes and Maryland luxury communities, including Meadow Creek, Woodmore North, Ashleigh, The Villages of Savannah, and Beechtree.
